Exceeds even modest expectations, August 9, 2014

    Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
I purchased this case as a temporary stopgap as my search for a high-quality, genuine leather case has taken longer than expected. I was also curious as to what kind of case one might receive for the cost of a cup of coffee, or a bag of chips, shipped free from Amazon. As it turns out, one that is much better than expected.

Make no mistake, this is an inexpensive case that isn’t going to fool anyone into believing that it’s leather, instead of plastic/vinyl, despite the cute little sample material tag that comes attached to the case. It is a neat little bit of detail, though, and a nice touch.

For the iPad versions, the outer material is a ribbed, not grained (as for the LG tablet versions) matte vinyl material that actually looks pretty good even at close range, at least in the black color I’ve purchased. It’s typical of the material one might find used to make the cheap pouches and carrying cases one might see bundled with a piece of consumer electronics, or the simulated leather packaging for a watch.

The interior is lined with a soft microfiber-like material akin to the mouse fur headliners in automobiles.

Construction wise, the cover feels sufficiently rigid, and lays flat when closed. The magnets (which also trigger wake/sleep) are strong enough to keep the cover from inadvertently opening. The stitching is straight, and there are no loose threads. I’ve come across much more expensive cases (both inflated MSRP and street cost) that fail in one or more of these respects.

The iPad slides into a frame that surrounds the tablet, and covers the bezel, with openings for the ports/speakers/corners/buttons/cameras. The fit is good, and the tablet doesn’t shift around. The sleep/wake functions as expected.

I’ve found that the front-hinged cover designs that tuck behind for viewing and typing positions to be more stable than the rear-hinged case designs that rely on friction to hold the tablet in position. They are also more stable than the rolled three-panel front cover designs like the Apple Smart Case. Why Apple moved from a four- to a three-panel design for the current iPad Air is a mystery, as it proven inferior to their older four-panel cases.

The only real question concerning this case is its durability, which will have to be proven over time. Honestly, I don’t expect much from it in this respect, but it will be interesting to see if it surprises here as well. The matte exterior will no doubt pick up scuffs and scratches, which is fine, as it is not the tablet itself that will be damaged. Over time, heat and exposure may cause the cover to warp.

It may, or may not protect the iPad from drops as well, but there are too many variables to prompt a prediction.

The bottom line — while it’s certainly not worth the MSRP, one could do worse for the Hamilton+Washington that some of the colors cost. I’ve bought and returned some name brand cases for three-to-four times the price that have been more poorly finished and presented, even if they might have better materials. This case could have a more recognizable brand name stamped on the cover and not seem out of place.

For a Jefferson, this case is a steal, even if it ends up serving a short life.

Two month follow up (October 2014):

I’ve now used the case for two months, and it is none the worse for wear. The outer PU doesn’t show any signs of wear, the stitching is intact, and everything is as it should be. The case remains a solid purchase, and excellent value. So much so that I have yet to purchase the leather case I was originally seeking.

I should note that I did not, and have never received any Amazon products for review, either under the Vine program, nor any other evaluation/review arrangement. This product was privately purchased, and no potential conflicts of interest exist.

Definitely exceeded my expectations for such a low cost!, September 22, 2014

I received this item to review and it surprised me for how lost cost this case is, however it does come with woes. Overall this has been a good case to use and review and it has met or even exceeded the expectations I had for it, due to its low cost. It provided great overall protection and functional use. While having this case on, my daughter has dropped the iPad Mini several times. Each time, it comes out with no visible dents, dings, scratches, cracks, etc.

My only real concern would be while the quality of the FYY case is great, I wonder how long its durability and quality will lost. Few other reviews have claimed of quality concerns and visible wear after just several weeks. I have had this case on for 3-4 weeks now and have not notice this to be an issue but I’m not on my iPad Mini constantly. Time will tell.

Overall a great case and I can recommend, especially for the price!

    I HIGHLY recommend this quality/economical case, September 17, 2014

Finding a decent cover for my iPad mini 2 has not been the easiest task. More often than naught they are overpriced or of such poor quality that I shudder at the thought of having to be reminded each time I open my iPad mini 2 that I bought a piece of junk. Stand Cases are suppose to be items for which you buy them and then never think about them (or their quality) ever again.

This case made by FYY® is just the case that you can rest easy once it’s received. It’s a sturdy case with quality stitching (no loose strands and thick threading). The magnets in the cover are strong enough to keep your cover closed, which is the purpose of them, but also positioned correctly in the case to activate the sleep/wake feature on your iPad mini 2.

The feel to the case is NOT plastic at all, like some have suggested, but nor is it going to feel like that $5,000 leather jacket either. It is a harder leather material (look up PU leather on Wikipedia) and it is the best suited material for this type of item. It brings durability along with some sense of comfort when you are holding it.

After receiving this item, I contacted the supplier with a concern about the product’s description title containing the word “leather” (without the PU). They were very receptive to the concern and as the product’s title stands now, it has indeed been amended to remove any potential to mislead/misrepresent, which I can assume was not intended. I have found that their intent is not to deceive their customers but rather bring an item that is normally 30 bucks for something comparable, to them for a reasonable price (Lists for under 6 bucks for Prime and that includes shipping at the time of this review).

Considering the price that this item is normally available to me for (@Prime) along with the decent quality (considering the great price), and in addition to the pleasant dealings I have had with FYY®, I would definitely recommend this product without any reservation.
