Surprisingly nice for what I thought would be a temporary case!, September 22, 2012

I ordered the case while watching the live podcast of the iPhone 5 presentation. As soon as I saw that it looked like the images leaked and this case seemed like it would fit, I ordered it.
I was going to use it as a temporary case and ordered a second one that won’t be here until October.
I received the phone on the first day available, yesterday and I was really surprised to see how it fit perfectly in this case. The fact that it’s frameless makes the gorgeous silver bezel on my white iPhone really stand out.
The phone seems honestly well protected. Got a screen bodyguard from Spiegen on it that works well, but with this case, the need for a screen bodyguard isn’t as high.
I should note that I was very doubtful that the case would hold the phone well but the adhesive is very strong, yet leaves no marks on the phone when removed.
Perhaps it would be better if it were a tiny bit higher, to protect the top and bottom of the phone better in case I dropped the case, but as a whole it’s really excellent at preserving the beauty of the phone.
Only thing that I need to get used to is that there aren’t any magnets in the cover, but since the cover is a bit similar to the new iPad covers, I expect my phone to go to sleep every time I close it, and wake up when I open it.
Of course it’s a phone so magnets would be a terrible thought because it would hang up your calls if you closed the case while on the phone. Right now I can make a call with the cover folded behind or with the cover closed, and therefore preventing any “face prints” on the screen while talking on the phone.
In conclusion, I like the case and would buy it again if it came in other colors, especially baby blue, green or pink since black blends in too well and I keep looking for my phone while its next to me on my black granite counter tops!

It is a decent product at a resonable price. Made from a soft felt-like material on the inside and leather-like material on the outside. I can tell this case is going to keep my new iphone 5 from be converted into the scratched up mess that my ancient phone became.

    Pros -
    - resonable price
    - cover protects front and back
    - fits the 5 well
    - phone is still thin in my pocket
    - opens easily for to answer the phone quickly
    - magnet holds the case closed AND holds it open

    Cons -
    - can’t take a picture with the cover all the way open
(needs a hole on the front cover to accomodate the back camera too, but you can take the phone out or not open the flap the whole way and it works),
    - no holes on the side for the volume
    (not a bother to me),
    - front flap has a built-in fold to make it work as a stand but the magnet is not strong enough to hold the phone up
(wasn’t plotting on using it as a stand, and it sort of works, so bonus).

    Conclusion – I like it… I’d buy it again.

Nice protection except for top and bottom edges, September 25, 2012

QUALITY: The quality is nice. There’s no edging, per se. Instead, the leather looks to be sealed with heat. But, it’s a very nice edge that looks better than cheap edging would have and will likely last longer.

THE GOOD PROTECTION: Looking at the iPhone’s spectacle, the screen, back panel and left edge are completely protected when the case is closed, since all three are completely covered. On the right side, a small square of leather, which stands upright, provides protection when combined with the top and bottom part of the cover (really one piece folded).

THE QUESTIONABLE PROTECTION: The cover isn’t much longer than the phone, so it only extends about 1/16 of an inch beyond the top and bottom of edges of the iPhone. On mine, the cardboard that’s sealed inside the leather, starts at the very top edge (which makes that edge honestly stiff); but since it’s a small shorter than it should be, the bottom edge is soft. So if you’re unfortunate enough to drop the phone and have it land on its top or bottom edges, there wouldn’t be much of a cushion, if any. Making the cover just a wee bit taller might have solved this problem. I say “might” because even if the cover were stiffer at the bottom, it likely would lose that stiffness if the phone is frequently slipped inside of a tight pocket (like you’d have with jeans).

FUNCTIONALITY: It’s very simple to use and the phone feels excellent when the cover is folded back. If we premeditated security part of the function, I especially like having the phone look less like a phone, and more like a note pad, because I figure it’s not as noticeable to a thief.

ADHESIVE PAD: I just place the phone in today, so I can’t comment on how well the glue holds (e.g., on a hot day after the phone has been in the car) or how easily it can be removed when I stop using the cover. Because the length of the cover is only a fraction of an inch longer than the phone, exact positioning is essential. I started by holding the phone inside the cover and looking at the front. That way, I could ensure that the top cutout was perfectly aligned. I then placed the cover face down with the phone still inside (i.e., the back of the exposed phone was facing up). That allowed me to ensure an equal distance between the top and bottom edges, and to make sure that the phone was straight on the then left edge (really the right edge of the phone when facing towards you). Then I pulled off the adhesive protection and closed the cover over the back of the phone while aligning the camera cutout. It worked perfectly.

SUMMARY: If I had spent twice the amount, I would have given it four stars. For $9.99, I still wish the cover was a small longer, but given the price and by and large nice quality, I certainly can’t complain.
