I’ve spent quite a few bucks going through some other Nexus 7 cases out there. While I’ve seen some decent cases, I haven’t seen anything like this. This case features 6 points that hug the tablet in place when in portrait mode. In order to position it in landscape mode, you unclip the upper left and lower left “clip”, thereby allowing it to fold into landscape mode accordingly. There are two channels built into the inside of the front flap which act as a pivot joint for the bottom of the tablet to sit nicely when in landscape mode. When exiting landscape mode to go back to portrait mode, clip those two points back into place and you’re good to go. The front cover actually has a similar type of clip, which is nice as it feels like an extra security measure to ensure that when the flap is closed, it stays closed.

It’s a very thin case as well. Of course, it does add SOME thickness to the unit, but far less than some others I’ve used. I love how there is no velcro on the case. I’m sorry, but velcro wears out over time. I don’t want to rely on something like velcro for the case to function. Once I saw this unit had no velcro I was immediately interested. The wake/sleep function that happens automatically when you open or close the case is fantastic as well. I never thought that such a simple feature would appeal to me, but I grew very attached to it with some previous cases I tried. Having that feature on this particular case really makes it a home run.

The price is exceptional for this unit. All too often we see phone cases selling for 30, 35 bucks, etc. That’s simply robbery. It was nice to find a case for this price, as it meshes both worlds together nicely… affordability and practicality. As I mentioned, I’ve been case-jumping a little bit until I found a winner. Well… we’re done. ;)

This case is a steal for the price. Other reviews have justifiably praised the case, and I don’t want to repeat other reviews. I will make sure that you do realize that because of the little padded ‘claws’ which hold the tablet in place, you do not get complete wrap-around edge protection. The corners are protected, for sure, but an edge-on drop against another edge surface could scuff or damage your tablet. However, I think the vast majority of drops would be corner drops or other types of drops against which this case would be very sufficient to protect the tablet.

I really like the claws not protruding far into the bezel area. The case is reasonably light, although I will admit for extended use, I just pop out the tablet and use it without a case, and then put it back in for traveling. Certainly it is usable, but if you really want to enjoy the magical lightness and power of the Nexus 7, just pop it out of the case while using it, and leave the case for traveling or propping up to watch movies and content.

I looked at a lot of cases before buying this one, and this is the one that seems to have the fewest compromises.

Auto-sleep feature is broken, bad design ***EDIT*** BUT YOU CAN CUT IT OUT WITH A BLADE, December 23, 2012

I don’t know if I got a defective case or something, but the “auto-sleep” feature that activates when the case is closed, also activates when I fold the case open against it’s back. I have to hold the case like an open book to stop it from shutting off my nexus. This renders the hand loop feature as completely pointless. Great as a stand case, but terrible to hold. Poor design and defective. I’ll be returning this case. Very disappointed.

    ****EDIT*****
After reading more reviews on different cases, I learned that the auto sleep/wake function seems to be an issue with most nexus 7 cases. Also, good luck finding a similar folding case that doesn’t have the sleep/wake feature (with many complaints). So, I said, “F*#% it!”. I took a magnet to the case to find the other magnet imbedded in the front flap (holding it open like a book, left panel, bottom right corner just under the ‘hand-hold loop’ on the inside flap, it’s towards the center binding) and cut the magnet out. Used super glue to fix my cut. Works ok now. Wish I didn’t have to molest this product to use it.
